In three simple steps

How it works

Step 1

Enter key data

You enter the information required for employment: personal details such as name, email and phone number, as well as who's working for you, at what pay, and from when. Nothing that you'd need to calculate or look up yourself.

quinn takes care of it

Once you've authorised quinn, quinn registers the employment with HMRC and NEST, and becomes your point of contact with both. You never fill in a registration form or wait on hold to HMRC yourself.

Step 3

Sit back and relax

From here it runs itself. quinn calculates the payroll every month and pays HMRC, NEST and your nanny — you simply top up your balance. Sick pay, maternity, a pay rise, a letter from HMRC: tell quinn, and quinn handles it.

HMRC & NEST settled automatically

quinn takes care of that for you

Once you've authorised quinn, the entire employment process is handled by quinn.

We handle the authorities

All registrations and all communication with HMRC, NEST and TPR are handled by quinn. You never have to call, submit anything, or fill in a form.

Errors are on us

quinn takes responsibility for correct execution. If a penalty is incurred due to an error on our part, quinn covers it.

No more paperwork

Notices and correspondence go to quinn first. You still receive some statutory letters from HMRC in parallel, but you never have to act on them alone.

No matter who you hire

Nanny, carer, cleaner or gardener — quinn handles the employment correctly and adjusts automatically if the pay or hours change.

We decide for you

Which filing goes where, what's due, and what deadline is approaching: quinn decides and meets every deadline. You don't need to know the rules.

Sickness, holiday, maternity

Enter it in the app, and quinn takes care of the rest — including claiming statutory funding back from HMRC where it's due.

We really do it

quinn doesn't just guide you through the process; quinn does it for you. No manual steps — from registration to payroll to payment.

You stay the employer

You hire, set pay and give instructions. quinn takes on the administrative execution — never the employer role itself.

No forms. No post. No waiting for someone to reply.

Every part of employing someone runs through the quinn app — setting up, changing pay, reporting a sick day, seeing what you owe. You are never asked to print, sign, post or email a form.

Set up in the app

Registration with HMRC and NEST starts from what you type in the app. No paper forms, no phone queue.

Change anything, any time

A pay rise at 11pm on a Sunday is a two-tap change. No cut-off date to write in by.

Everything in one place

Payslips, P60s, contracts and every filing sit in your account. Nothing to dig out of an inbox.

Always current

What you see is what's actually been filed and paid — not a monthly summary that lands later.

A simple, capped price. No setup fee, no annual contract.

What you do and what quinn does

You provide the facts and remain the employer. quinn handles the administration on your behalf.

What quinn registers and handles for you on an ongoing basis

From registration and monthly payroll to termination. Tap a topic to see the details.

Setup & registration
Registration: what quinn signs you up for+

Once you've authorised quinn, quinn registers the employment everywhere it belongs — you don't need to know which body that is.

quinn registers you as an employer with HMRC and sets up your PAYE scheme. Where the employee is eligible, quinn also sets up a workplace pension with NEST and adds itself as an additional contact with The Pensions Regulator (TPR) to handle the Declaration of Compliance.

Employment contract and documents+

quinn produces a compliant employment contract based on your details — who's working, at what pay and hours.

Over the year, quinn also produces every payslip, P45s and P60s at year end, and any other statutory forms your employment needs (P11, P11D, SSP1, SMP1).

Ongoing
The monthly payroll run+

Every period, quinn calculates the pay automatically and pays it out — no separate approval is needed from you.

quinn works out gross pay, deductions, your employer costs and net pay, produces the payslip, and makes the payments. Everything is visible in the app.

Changes: pay rises, hours, pension eligibility+

Change something in the app and quinn automatically works out what follows from it.

Raise your nanny's pay above the auto-enrolment earnings threshold, for example, and quinn assesses pension eligibility, enrols them with NEST if required, and adjusts the payroll accordingly. You don't need to track the thresholds yourself.

Payments and balance+

You top up your quinn balance once a month; quinn pays out the rest.

From that balance, quinn pays the net wage to your nanny and the deductions and employer contributions to HMRC and NEST, on time and in your name.

Tax and National Insurance, by earnings level+

What's due depends on how much your employee earns. quinn calculates it correctly at every level.

Earnings (weekly)What applies
Below the Lower Earnings LimitNo NI due; no PAYE registration required unless another job applies
Above £129/week (2026/27)PAYE registration required; Income Tax and NI calculated and reported
Above the auto-enrolment thresholdWorkplace pension assessment and NEST enrolment where eligible
Holiday, deadlines and year-end+

Holiday entitlement, reporting deadlines and the year-end submission all run in the background through quinn.

quinn tracks statutory holiday entitlement and monitors every RTI filing and payment deadline. At year end, quinn makes the final submission to HMRC and issues P60s.

When something happens
Illness and maternity+

If your nanny is off, you tell quinn the dates and your intentions on pay. quinn handles the whole case.

quinn calculates SSP or an enhanced rate, and for maternity, confirms eligibility for SMP, claims statutory funding from HMRC, and reflects everything in the payroll.

Leaving and termination+

When the employment ends, you report it in the app and quinn winds it down cleanly.

quinn issues the P45, files the final submission, and resigns its authority with HMRC and NEST. If you're switching to another provider, quinn sends the records needed for the transfer. No minimum term — one month's notice.

The boundary

What quinn does not do

quinn takes over the payroll and employment administration, but not the employer role. quinn does not help find or place a nanny, does not decide on pay, hours or duties, does not provide legal advice or tax-optimisation advice, and is not an employer of record. You remain the employer and stay in control. quinn does the work.

How quinn compares to other options

Whether an offering is software you operate or a service that actually executes the work for you comes down to five verifiable questions — not the marketing copy.

We fact-checked this against the UK's named nanny payroll providers — including Nannytax, NannyPAYE, Nannywage, Way2paye, Pay My Nanny and koru Kids — and found that most calculate what's owed but leave you to actually pay HMRC and your nanny, sometimes offering payment execution as a separate paid add-on.
